Sometimes this kind of problem can be caused by corruption in an InDesign file, and this is especially obvious if the crash always happens when you try and open one particular file. You can also save and then reload things like print presets and document presets by going into them from the file menu and clicking define then saving them. That way if doing this doesn’t solve the problem you can always restore the preferences. The downside of this is it wiped your personal settings, including document and print presets, so I would suggest synching whatever settings you can to the cloud first to save a bit of time. Personally I find this fixes almost all my crashing issues. After a few seconds you should then get a pop up box that asks if you want to reset the preferences. To reset the preferences simply restart InDesign and hold down Ctrl + Alt + Shift (Windows) or Cmd + Ctrl + Opt + Shift (Mac). In fact personally I find this method has worked almost everytime over many years. Having said that it generally does fix recurring crashes in InDesign (and Photoshop / Illustrator). This does wipe any customisation so if you have personalised workspaces, etc. The next thing which I usually try is resetting the InDesign preferences. It’s worth a go and only takes a few minutes. Generally this won’t resolve the problem but I have come across situations where it has. OK it sounds kind of obvious, but one thing you could do it restart the computer itself. There are a few things you can do to stop this, other than simply reinstalling InDesign. When I could not find a solution on the web - I just reverted to the older version for now.Whilst InDesign is generally pretty stable I do sometimes come across people who have an issue with InDesign crashing repeatedly. I had to use a soft reboot of the system. When I tried to change the fill color either in properties or on the tool bar a loading bar would come up saying processing but it would stick about 1/2 way and not go any farther. I had to close and reopen and then it would work.ģ. I would select an object and use properties to change the color and it would not update the artwork but did update the properties panel. Color picker locked it up (clicked on fill color to change to a new color and it would freeze or completely close the program without saving)Ģ. The latest Version of Illustrator did several thingsġ. Was using newest version of Illustrator but reverted back to the 26.3 version and it is working again. More memory than necessary - so my system should not be the issue. I have a custom built top of the line gaming / performance computer with 10 cores and Direct X 12 and top of the line Nvidia graphics card. Windows 10 Professional with up to date updates I rolled back to an earlier version of Illustrator so I am not sure I can get the dump file. If that doesn't help, you may roll back and install the older v26.3.1. )Īlso, one user recently contacted the support team and resetting Illustrator preferences resolved the issue for him. Please share the Illustrator app dump file from the Task Manager. Is this happening while working on a specific file or after performing a particular action/ using a specific tool?.Are you seeing a progress bar? If yes, what exactly happens afterwards? Illustrator freezes and starts non-responding, or it simply crashes, or you have to forcefully close it?. Is this happening with both old & new files?.The exact version of Windows (build no.) and Illustrator (e.g.Would you mind sharing a few details like: We have logged a bug with the product team and will like to investigate the issue further.
